Cathartes

An experiment in collective creation and ownership of an artwork
reflecting the aspirations of the early Ordinal community

Mission

An art piece
about all of us

The Ordinal movement evokes a lot of different feelings.

Let's celebrate this early moment by leaving an on-chain mark devoted to our minds and emotions.

A timeless snapshot that will remain on-chain forever.

Art co-creation
experience

A co-creation journey guided by creators and their input.

An algorithm capable of encapsulating the inner mind of both the individual and the collective.

To cement the place in cryptoart history.

A guided path
to Ordinal movement

Enjoy the best of the two worlds - the immutable and permissionless Ordinals paired with cutting-edge Ethereum smart contact tooling.

Bridge & burn when ordinal infrastructure is in place.

Don't lose out on risky UX.

Pushing the boundaries
of collective ownership

Own the fruits of your creativity.

Join the rest of the co-creators to explore an innovative decentralized ownership model.

It's that simple: the one who creates is the one who owns.

How it works

Reflect
on the early days
of the Ordinal movement

How do you feel about the Ordinal theory?

Which emotions are the early times evoking? How strong are they?

Tune inside and share the results with the algorithm.

The choices you make will define the look and feel of your personal Reflection and contribution to Cathartes.

Mint
your Reflection

Based on your input, the algorithm will generate the Reflection of your mind and aspirations in the form of art.

You'll receive your personal Reflection as an ERC-721 token that could be burned at any time for an Ordinal inscribed to the Bitcoin blockchain.

The inscription process of Reflections starts immediately after the mint.

Contribute
to Cathartes

Cathartes is a collective artwork comprising a multitude of personal Reflections.

As more and more co-creators mint their Reflections, Cathartes expands with each new contribution in real-time.

Both conceptually and technically, Cathartes will reflect the plurality of aspirations of the early Ordinal community.

Become the co-owner
of Cathartes

Once all the Reflections are minted out, the co-creation of Cathartes is complete.

Cathartes is inscribed to the Bitcoin blockchain as an Ordinal and placed in the Vault using Emblem Vault protocol.

The Vauilt is further fractionalized into Cath - the fractional NFTs that represent collective ownership over vaulted Cathartes.

The holders of Reflections are airdropped Cath (1 Reflection = 1 Cath).

Explore novel
co-ownership
models

As a holder of Cath, you exercise collective ownership of Cathartes.

The Cath holders can flex with it in a gallery, use it as a PFP, list it on a marketplace, etc.

Owning Cath is also a precondition to creating a buyout proposal for collectors interested in acquiring Cathartes in full.

FAQ

The Reflection is an artwork that is algorithmically generated with your input and serves as a personal reflection of your emotions and aspirations as regards the Ordinal movement.

The Reflection is minted as an NFT (ERC-721) but will be inscribed to the Bitcoin blockchain and have a unique ordinal identifier based on your ERC-721 token ID.

By minting the Reflection you collaborative contribute to the co-creation of Cathartes.
Holding the Reflection guarantees the airdrop of the Cath.

Cathartes is a community-generated artwork that reflects the plurality of aspirations of the early Ordinal community.

Cathartes is collectively created, owned and governed by the community.

Once all the Reflections are minted out, the Cathartes is inscribed to the Bitcoin blockchain as an Ordinal and placed in the Vault using Emblem Vault protocol.

After the Cathartes is inscribed to the Bitcoin blockchain as an Ordinal, it will be placed into a Vault using the Emblem Vault protocol.

The Vault will then be fractionalized using Tessera/Fractional protocol.

The governance & ownership over the Vault, and respectively, Cathartes will be excercised via Cath.

Cath is an NFT (ERC-1155) that represent collective ownership over Cathartes.

All the holders of the Reflections will be airdropped Cath (1 Reflection = 1 Cath).

Cath can be used as a regular NFT, e.g. flex in a gallery, use it as PFP, list for sale, etc.

In addition, owning Cath is also a precondition to creating a buyout proposal for those interested in acquiring Cathartes in full.

After all the Reflections are minted out, a snapshot will be taken and holders of Reflections will be airdropped Cath (1 Reflection = 1 Cath).

The mint details will be later announced here, on Twitter & Discord.

We will not do a surprise mint.

The vaulted Cathartes may be bought via Optimistic Buyout Mechanism. Please see Tesseras blog for more details.

If someone buys out the Cathartes in full, the collector will be able to burn Cathartes on Ethereum to receive Cathartes on Bitcoin.

The holders of Cathartes will be able to burn their Reflections on Ethereum to receive their Reflections iscribed to Bitcoin.

To do that, all is needed is Bitcoin wallet and some ETH to pay for transaction fees.

More details on the bridging will be provided later.

We're all very early to the Ordinal movement. The non-technical users take a lot of risks by interacting with Ordinal tech which can lead to accidental losses of their Ordinals and other unfortunate events.

In contrast, Ethereum smart contract tooling allows us to develop an infrastructure that will support the collective creation, ownership and governance of an artwork with the aid of battle-tested smart contract capabilities.

Thus, to simplify the UX and minimise the risks for the community, the minting & collective ownership will be happening on Ethereum.

However, the end-game for Cathartes is Bitcoin.
